| Who I went with |

Our Family enjoyed a wonderful camping & boating experience at the John H. Kerr Dam & Reservoir. The campgrounds, public areas, & restroom facititlies were clean, fresh, spacious, & well maintained. The boating piers & boat access areas were spacious enough for the largest of boats & could accommodate several at a time. The piers were in excellent shape & the water is pure, clean & soft because of the hydro-electric power station. Our children went swimming in 60 ft. deep water, and they were totally visible from their head to their feet while swimming. The spacious water area provided crowd free activities, & fishing in the many "nooks & bends" in the lake proved perfect for landing a variety of fish types, such as bass.

The area is remote & quiet, which makes camping a nice adventure. The campsites are spacious allowing for several tents & vehicles in a single space. Wooded lots provide shade, & privacy. The restrooms are conveniently located & the showers are comfortable & well-designed. Parking lots are located in several areas & provide ample parking for vehicles, boats & trailers w/ plenty of room to move about w/ease. Bugs & other pests are minimal & Park Rangers patrol the area frequently. Fire Pits are provided & cabins are available at reasonable rates.

What I didn't like |

The area is rural & there are few grocery stores, no indoor malls & restaurant choices are limited. The roads leading to the park are narrow in places & large boats may find turns difficult. The local "swim & boat" shops are expensive & few in number.

What I recommend |
|
The campsites are perfect for individuals, couples or families. There are lots of activities for boating, fishing, swimming, and hiking, children with love the abundance of nature along the many trails located throughout the park. Cabins are available for those who prefer not to tent camp & some recreational items are available for rent. Roasting marshmellows & smores have never been better in this clean & well-kept secret campground.

South Hill, VA - located near Kerr Dam & Reservior has a movie theater & large Food Lion Store. Several area restauants & a drive-in Sonic make it a treat to eat in the car & enjoy their very impressive fast-food menu choices. Try the Sonic Blast for a real "cool" treat.
